7. GOOD DEED

Saturday had to have been the most exhausting but rewarding day of my life. A couple of my classmates and myself decided we wanted to lend a helping hand to Habitat for Humanities and help them build a home for a needy family. I don't believe we realized what we were getting ourselves into until it was to late.

I thought all they were going to have us do was remove debris and just keep the work area clean since we were a group of girls. Boy was I wrong. They had us working just like everyone else. There was one guy that wouldn't have any pity on us at all. He had myself and a student from Holmes Community College carrying eight feet long pieces of plywood from one place to another. At first it was real easy but after doing it for so long the wood started to get heavier and heavier. After we did that he had us putting the floor broads in.

It was so hot out there I thought I was going to drop dead. At one point the wind started blowing and it got real cloudy. I've never prayed that hard for rain but it never came. I think we were being teased.

My entire body is soar from all the hard work that we did and the heavy lifting. My mom asked me would I do it again. The answer is yes. It may have been hot and exhausting but it was all worth it because in the end a wonderful family will have a lovely home to call their own. And I can say I helped build it.

i have experienced something almost exactly like your service.
several years ago i went with what is now my church youth group and re did a locals trailer. She wanted to improve the life of her son by providing him a better environment. At the time I was not not sure what exactly i was really going to be doing. I was exstreamly exhausted the entire week of the service. now looking back on it i have no regrets and would do it again anytime.

keep up with your good deeds!

i know what you mean when you say that you would do it again. i have never done that type of thing for community service, but i did have a part time job one time and that is basically what i did. it was amazing and i loved it and would do it agian.

It's so great that even though it was challenging, you got a lot out of it. It sounds like it was maybe not that fun while you were doing it, but when you looked back on it, it was a good thing.
